Not a single day goes by without an item, product, good, medicine, food, or more that is delivered on a truck. That is exactly why it is not Truck Driver Appreciation Day, but instead, a “Week” dedicated to the men and women that move America. As such the United States of America stands during the week of September 12-18th to honor our truck drivers. We at RJS Truck Insurance are so thankful to the men and woman that serve our country every day out on the road. As such it is only appropriate that we list just a few of the many inspiring stories of how the truck industry helps us all daily.
It can be hard to wrap our heads around it, but if you stop and look around it is no surprise that trucks are moving America one load at a time. They are all around us and as we know they are working to be as safe as possible as they navigate traffic through our favorite highways. According to ATA, American Trucking Associations, “Over 72.5% of all freight was transported by a truck in the United States during 2019.” We like to say that our truck drivers smile for the miles which the ATA states, “304.9 billion miles were traveled by all registered trucks in 2018.” As for me looking at the numbers makes me re-think how a 30-minute commute isn’t all that bad. For those reading this, I will guarantee that a truck driver is on the road working tirelessly to ensure freight arrives where it needs to be.
Have you ever seen something happen, but decided instead of stopping to help to move on with your day? As you may be thinking, we all can think of a moment that we recall just moving on with our day. Although what industry moves for like no other… the truck industry. An industry filled with deadlines that must be met and electronic logs keeping every second tracked can make time hard to come by.
In 2018 I spotted an article by the Detroit News that described a man who unfortunately stood at the edge of an overpass of a highway prepared to ultimately jump to end his life. That was until 13 truck drivers parked their trucks under the overpass to prevent the man from jumping which created a truck “safety net.” The image can be found online and truly brings a smile to my face. It shows that the industry we love will always find time to help others.
We never know what the future will bring and with 2020 an unforeseen future had presented itself. Covid-19 swept not just our nation, but our world. The word “safety” was replaced with “sanitation” as companies maneuvered their way through ever-changing regulations. Even faced with a pandemic, the truck industry pushed forward more than ever to ensure that all could be done to help our nation. I say let the world know that we work with heroes and heroines because we all could not be where we are today without our truck drivers. The perseverance and persistence of the millions of truck drivers across the country are admired by all of us at RJS Truck Insurance.
We have been fortunate enough to celebrate 30 years servicing the commercial truck industry and we are honored to continue that service for the many years to come. So from the bottom of our hearts, we celebrate the truck industry and our truckers for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
